In Gen. 12: 1-4, God gave Abraham a command – “Now the LORD had said to Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you: and I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. SO ABRAM DEPARTED, as the LORD had spoken to him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.”

In Gen. 26: 1-5, God gave a command to Isaac too “And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines to Gerar. And the LORD appeared to him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell you of: sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for to you, and to your seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father; and I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to your seed all these countries; and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

You can never be stranded in a place God has sent you! You cannot experience shortage where He has put you. You must be sensitive to the instructions of God and OBEY – this is how to survive in the midst of famine! Stay where God asked you to stay; go where God asks you to go – that way He will be with and bless you!

Obedience is one key that activates the covenant of blessing. Zech. 8: 13 – “And it shall come to pass, that as you were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. For thus said the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, said the LORD of hosts, and I repented no: so again have I thought in these days to do well to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear you not.” BEGINNING FROM TODAY, GOD WILL DO YOU GOOD!

Sensitivity to the instructions of God causes one to progress in life – God asked Abraham to go, but told Isaac to stay and dwell. God might be telling your brother to go and be asking you to stay – walk with Him in faith and He will bless you!

Develop the spirit of obedience, not the spirit of negotiation – you cannot negotiate with God on what He has asked you to do or how He will bless you; obey even the little things! The disciples obeyed Jesus when He asked them to fill the pots with water during the wedding at Cana of Galilee when the experienced shortage of wine (John 2); this water turned out to be the best wine at the ceremony, even the governor of the feast testified! People will testify of God’s goodness in your life when you obey Him even in the time of shortage! Prosperity follows obedience! Even Jesus obeyed His Father, that is why God’s Spirit never left Him!

In Gen. 26: 12, continuing Isaac’s story – Isaac sowed in the land. This was another way he activated God’s covenant of blessing upon him! Eccl. 11: 4 says “He that observes the wind shall not sow; and he that regards the clouds shall not reap.” Isaac sowed in the time of famine and reaped a hundred times in the same year! Sowing your tithes activates the covenant of blessing upon your life and work; and this includes tithing not only in “favourable times” but in those days that things seems hard and tight.

You create the atmosphere of covenant activation by OBEYING and SOWING! Isaac had unusual yield because he did both!

Another way to activate God’s covenant is to WALK IN FAITH. Heb. 10: 35 – “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense of reward.” God cannot and will never disappoint you, Gal. 6: 9 says “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, IF WE FAINT NOT.” We cannot be moved by what we see or hear, we must believe firmly that we are going on higher! And with God, you can only keep growing, receiving, increasing and prospering! Isaac obeyed, he sowed and he kept walking by faith; and he was blessed!

Isaac did not stop at obeying, sowing and walking by faith alone, He spent time in fellowship with God and God’s people. Psa. 92: 12, 13 says “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.” There are no excuses good enough to not find your way to the house of God and spend time with God’s people.

I pray for everyone reading this today, that the spirit of obedience, to walk with God by faith, to give even in hard times and to leave everything at the appropriate time to be in God’s presence and with His people – everything you need to do that will activate God’s covenant of blessings and prosperity over your life, work, ministry, family, receive now in the name of Jesus! AMEN!
