God, seated enthroned in heaven, has plans to see each and every one of His children succeed in life! His thoughts for us are those of success and prosperity in every area of our lives – in ALL things, just like Abraham was blessed in ALL things even in his old age! According to His word, our best days are ahead of us; and every part of our lives will be blessed by God if we hold on to His word!
Last week we looked at “DISCOVERY OF PURPOSE” as the first formula for success; and we learned that a child of God may try and try and not succeed at something but failure is never our end result; just like Peter toiled all night to get fish to no avail, until Jesus instructed him to cast his net elsewhere and we know the kind of net-braking and ship-sinking blessing he got! This shows that it is possible to fail because we haven’t gotten the formula right! Jesus got this formula right and that is why He succeeded and God was with Him in all He did – Jesus knew His assignment, He discovered very early, that distinct thing He was supposed to do! One thing is peculiar and distinct only to you – find this thing and people will begin to recognize, stand for and applaud you!
This week, we are looking at the second formula for success – HARD WORK. God told Joshua in chapter one verse 6, “be strong”! To succeed in life, you must roll your sleeves, you must be ready to work – nothing works until you work it. Any given assignment is huge and one can only succeed if one works hard at it! Things remain stagnant and in a permanent position until there is a decision to display, manifest and apply power! An application of force is needed for things to work and move in the direction that we push them. God worked and is still working; Gen. 2: 2 tells us that He worked for six days creating the earth and man; and in vs. 15, He instructed Adam to work in the garden – if God did not fold His hands and claim that things will be; who are we to fold our hands, and hope that things will work out?! A little folding of hands and a little slumber aids poverty’s arrival, like a bandit!
Prov. 14: 23 – “In all labor there is profit; But the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.”
Col. 3: 23, 24 – “Whatsoever ye do, work heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that from the Lord ye shall receive the recompense of the inheritance: ye serve the Lord Christ.”
Prov. 6: 6 – 11 – “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; Consider her ways, and be wise: which having no chief, Overseer, or ruler, provideth her bread in the summer, And gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall thy poverty come as a robber, and thy want as an armed man.”
The reward of hard work is profit and inheritance; laziness and slothfulness never lead to success!
THE DANGERS OF SLOTHFULNESS
Prov. 20: 13 – “Love not sleep, let thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.” Hard work does not kill, it only rewards us with satisfaction; we cannot afford to love sleep over work. Hard work promotes, it lifts one up and brings the hard worker to the notice of relevant people; but SLEEP BRINGS POVERTY!
Prov. 19: 15 – “Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.” There is no success for him who is lazy! In both our jobs and assignment in life, we must do them with all our hearts if we want to get the best results! Even when God rested after the sixth day, He continues working daily in our lives – He worked for us to be saved by sending His Son to die for us; and there is a part of this salvation that we ourselves must work out (Phil. 2: 12)! It was not enough that Joseph discovered that he was a dreamer and an interpreter of dreams; he had to work out his dream and purpose even as a slave in Potiphar’s house – he did not work there as just another slave, but he worked diligently at all he had to, knowing and having seen the bigger picture of where God was taking him – Joseph worked hard in another man’s household, he owned that job like the house was his; the same way he took charge in the prison, and eventually, at the appointed time, God made him own all decisions taken as regards the affairs of Egypt – no one could take any decision without asking him first! All these were possible, however, because Joseph was hardworking!
Prov. 18: 9 – “He also that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.” A lazy person is kinsman with a waster and a destroyer! When you’re lazy, you waste and destroy a lot of things even when you do not know it – things like time, opportunities and resources – and bear in mind that a waste of time is a waste of life!
Prov. 20: 4 – “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.” Laziness gives you all sorts of excuses; and excuses end up making you short!
Prov. 22: 13 – “The sluggard saith, there is a lion without: I shall be slain in the streets.” More excuses! Laziness conjures up non-existent objects of fear; creating illusions and playing tricks with your mind, and eventually your pocket and stomach!
Work diligently, and not as if you’re working to man, but unto God (Col. 3: 23); because it is only God that can reward you the way you deserve and more than you expect! His reward is bigger and better than anyone’s in the world!
THE FUTURE OF THE HARD WORKER
Prov. 12: 24 – “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be put under task work.” The hard worker will RULE! When you are diligent with your purpose and passion, you cannot be put under forced labour because when the world is looking for a hard worker, they will find you! Diligence qualifies you for top positions, because you worked hard for it (even unknowingly!) Hard work pays!
Prov. 13: 4 – “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” Because the hard worker does more than desire, he is blessed with lucrativeness and abundance! The diligent one adds action and work to his desires and passion, therefore he thrives and FLOURISHES!
Prov. 12: 11 – “He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain persons is void of understanding.” It may take a while, but sooner rather than later, the diligent person is blessed with SATISFACTION. The satisfaction may not be there now, but it is coming!
Titus 2: 7 – “in all things showing thyself an ensample of good works…” Choose to be an exemplar of hard and good work. Inspire others with your diligence, because there is reward in that also!
II Tim. 2: 6 – “The husbandmen that laboreth must be the first to partake of the fruits.” ROLL YOUR SLEEVES, BECAUSE BLESSING IS COMING!
Today I decree and declare, as written in Psa. 90: 17, “And let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; Yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.” God will favour you and establish the works of your hands! He will shine is beauty upon you and bless the work of your hands! As you apply diligence and hard work to your desires, passion and purpose, God will cause you to rule! You will flourish and satisfaction will be your portion in the name of Jesus! I command every spirit of slothfulness and laziness to flee; every spirit that does not want you to reign and rule by the work of your hands is cast out today in the name of Jesus! AMEN!
