HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL FATHERS AND ALMOST-FATHERS READING THIS!
Let me quickly share with you a short exhortation on being good and godly fathers to your children. I have highlighted a few points today, and I pray that they impact and start to turn things around in your family as you read and do them! AMEN!
Make time for your family
Money does not solve all problems; attend your children’s graduation ceremonies; do not let “busy” be your anthem. Show them that they are important to you.
Be a good communicator
Listen to their issues without overreacting. Express yourself without losing your temper. Be their confidant; don’t make them find a listening ear elsewhere.
Love and respect your wife
Showing respect to their mother increases their love for you and prepares them to respect their future wives, and the daughters know what it is like to be respected by a man, from your example!
Admit when you are wrong
Do not act like you never make mistakes. Apologise and show them the words “I am sorry” are magic words that can right wrongs!
Teach your children respect by showing them respect
Respect their reasonable decisions; let them live their lives, not yours. They will reciprocate the respect you show them!
Accept your children’s mistakes
Let them fail so you can correct them. Don’t place the burden of unreasonable expectations and unattainable goals on them!
Realize that a father’s work is never done
Your child must still be able to come to you for counseling even when he/she has kids of his/her own.
Apply God’s wisdom in dealing with them
Seek God’s face in bringing them up; pray to be the father you should be so that you can raise godly children that will succeed in life!
I pray for all fathers and fathers-to-be out there, you will not fail in your fatherly duties; you will not know shame and reproach when it comes to the matters of your kids; your health will not fail you, you will perform all your parental duties in good health; you will not lack any resources required of you to be a great father; your desires for your children and family, God will bring it to pass! You will do well in the name of Jesus!
